Kisii Update

Dear Friends,

I wanted to provide our donors with an update on Fiat Lux Foundation's activities in Kisii, Kenya.

In August 2014, a group of American volunteers traveled to Kisii to participate in outreach camps in rural southwest Kenya. Our team of American and Kenyan doctors and assistants ended up performing over 600 free eye exams and 60 eye operations in one week.

Among the operations our team performed were five corneal transplants. The donor tissue for the transplants was generously provided by SightLife and hand-carried to Kenya by our team. Dr. Kevin Merrill, a pediatric ophthalmologist based in Santa Clara, California, performed numerous vision-restoring operations on children.

This woman, blind for five years, was transported to the hospital for vision-restoring surgery.

Since opening in November 2013, the Kisii Eye Hospital has become an established center of excellence in Western Kenya: a for-profit hospital with a social mission to provide eye care to all regardless of their ability to pay.

Thanks again to everyone whose financial support has made this dream a reality.
